Opening Hours:
4th of March – 22nd of April 2016
Monday – Friday, 11.00 – 17.00

Students of the MA programme Arts & Heritage (UM) and Rooms Art Space/Soup Solo invite you to the exhibition We are not what we are, a multimedia exhibition featuring emerging local artists and writers from Maastricht. Come and see a diverse selection of artworks by Sara Bachour, Joep Hinssen and Martijn Riksen as well as original literary pieces created by Priscilla Kint, Keir Plaice and Felix Qvarnström. We are not what we are refers to the notion of carnivalesque, as developed by the Russian philosopher and literary theorist Mikhail Bakhtin. The joy of the carnivalesque is deceitful, and its syncretic extravaganza is a mere disguise. The exhibition plays a trick, not only offering a roar of laughter, but also re-enacting the anarchic and liberating atmosphere of the medieval folk festivals.
